Whodunnit? And can we prove it...Again?
If you’d do just about anything for a little liberty around here, what about a nice murder?
No?
Greetings fellow Porcupines and welcome to the introductory newsletter of The Rational Apprentice. My name is Skoti, and I was your host for Mind Over Murder at last year’s Porcupine Festival. It’s been a busy year since then, and everything that I said I was going to do has finally been done. But, before I get into the details of all that, let’s discuss our upcoming events at PorcFest 2022.
The mysteries that people liked most were the clue reveals and the long form, cold case files—so, we’re expanding on those this year. We are preparing multiple cases and puzzles for each day (Tuesday through Saturday,) along with some bigger prizes and, of course, snacks and drinks.
We have also decided to host a few special sessions for our younger sleuths. The cases for the kids will be less complex and a lot less “murdery”. We are looking forward to it and we hope you are as well. The schedule of events has not yet been finalised—we’re trying to work around those events that people will most want to attend so that we don’t overlap. The best thing to do is to join the Mind Over Murder Telegram Group in order to get the latest information and schedule or you can bookmark the festival page over at the new website to get the latest updates.
And now, onto the updates…
Since last summer, we have been working to build out our new company The Rational Apprentice. We have a new podcast and a new website in which we explore the provable connections between the myriad problems that have always plagued humanity. Using the tools of the Scientific Method, we will examine and reveal the tools and solutions that will precisely identify the root causes and finally understand how to solve them all.
Seriously, we’re not kidding. The goal is to elevate our societal studies into an actual, integrated science. We will also have short-form discussions and practices on subjects such as: logic and logical argumentation, reasoning and evidence, and the unknown, forgotten, or under-appreciated scientists and philosophers in our history...And, of course, the Mind Over Murder case of the week.
This is very different from anything you have heard before, and we encourage you to subscribe to the podcast and listen to them in order, starting from the very first episode.
The Rational Apprentice Podcast is available at Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Anchor, Stitcher, Odysee, Rumble, and BitChute.
Our new website, therationalapprentice.com is almost complete and hosts a number of articles, definitions and terms used in the podcast, the list of logical fallacies so admired by our ruling and media classes, as well as links to books, podcasts, and services that we find most valuable. We will soon offer additional courses and master classes that accompany and enhance the content covered in the podcast episodes and all of that will be announced in this newsletter, so we hope you stick around.
Meanwhile, the case notes for the first Mind Over Murder should be coming out later today in the first weekly newsletter. Again, we are excited for the things to come and we are looking forward to seeing you again this year at PorcFest! And if you know of anyone who is intellectually curious and/or going to PorcFest, please tell them about us.
Join us as we Forge The Tools of Freedom.
Making important life decisions takes careful logical reasoning. We analyze the information we have, determine the relevance and objective truth of that information, and develop solutions. Like all other valuable skills, logical reasoning takes practice and awareness.
And one of the best and most fun ways to practice logical reasoning is by solving crime stories and Whodunnits!
Detectives are like scientists in many ways. The Scientific Method must be the tool of art in the science lab and the crime lab. Like scientists, detectives use inductive and deductive reasoning. They systematically consider the clues as to their validity and logical fit in the big picture of the crime. Each party in the story is a suspect until eliminated.
Join us for a series of Whodunnit mysteries where together, we'll have a blast solving crimes and discussing the everyday ways we connect, reject, or get caught out by life's clues.
—All while having fun and meeting new people.
Light refreshments will be served. We have tables, chairs, shade, and, best of all, there are some pretty epic prizes (even if I do say so myself!)
Great for adults and young adults (Recommended mentality: 12+)
New for 2022: KID'S SESSIONS!
Recommended for kids aged 8+, these special sessions feature murder-free mysteries that are lighter on the logic and heavier on the fun.
